"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."

Nelson Mandela; Anti-Apartheid Revolutionary, Politician, Philanthropist.

Primary school

Humble yet homely, the nearby 3-Teacher National School played a huge part in shaping our (i.e. Fergal and Padraig's) Personal Values, and by extension, Tailteann's Company ones.

Miss Ann Costello, our Junior and Senior Infants' teacher, helped to instil the basics of mastery by focussing upon mastery of the basics. Indeed, her classroom was not only a study in accuracy and attention to detail but in harmony. Seldom in harmony were we during her music classes though, not that it ever stopped her from believing there was music in us, something she pleaded with us to never let go of.

Continuing on the theme of music, nature-loving Mrs. Anne O'Brien (who taught us from 1st to 3rd Class) believed that the Premier County's jaw-dropping countryside played the sweetest tunes to those willing to listen. Art & Design being an equal passion of hers, Mrs. O'Brien saw it and nature as being inextricably linked, a perspective that greatly influenced our design beliefs.

A Principal of principle was Mr. Denis Floyd (whom we had in 4th, 5th and 6th Class), we taking great example from his disciplined and distinguished ways. His book, "In the Shade of Arra" (see accompanying graphic) also greatly helped to develop our sense of place, identity and belonging.

secondary school

The first day of secondary school at Nenagh C.B.S saw us transition from big fish in the small pond to small fish in the big pond. Differentiation, we were to learn, was the key to adapting!

Regarding the educational system itself, we quickly uncovered that rote learning and memorisation wasn't really our cup of tea, as we had a strong preference to learn by doing. It did however provide us with a keen appreciation of the value of both application and perseverance.

It is regularly said that teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions, and we certainly have reason to be extremely grateful to the staff in Nenagh, who equipped us with the tools required to multi-task in business. As we were probably too immature to properly thank them at the time, we would like to take this opportunity to do so now:
