to reach the present, we must first return to the past.





Whilst studying for his Research Masters at the University of Limerick in 2002, a former classmate of Fergal’s informed him of a part-time position that would further help to pay his way. The programming job in question was with CliniSynergy, an altruistic start-up founded by Consultant Physician and Med-Tech Evangelist, Prof. Declan Lyons. Upon uptake of the post, Fergal was blown away by just how beneficial to patients the Clinical Information Systems he was charged with designing could actually be. This fact fuelled Fergal with a great sense of purpose; with each passing day, the job to him became less about receiving a pay-cheque, and more about helping to improve Irish healthcare. ​

...CliniSynergy were unable to make his position permanent, primarily because they were just too far ahead of the curve in Ireland. Coinciding with the birth of Bainisteoir - Hurling as a concept, Fergal both understood and accepted the situation, departing to start work upon a project he really wanted to do.​

Maintaining his friendship with Declan in the intervening years, Fergal’s yearning to return to a cause of such importance to the nation’s well-being grew incrementally stronger with time. But when an immediate family member suffered due to a paper record mishap, the required impetus to act upon his impulse was provided. Aware that the CliniSynergy project needed help in certain areas to keep its brave dream of a reformed Irish hospital environment alive, Fergal launched the Tailteann Medical brand, and immediately formed a Strategic Alliance with Lyons' company.​



upon re-entry to the sector, fergal quickly realised...





...the business environment had changed little in the intervening years. Opting to view adversity as an opportunity, Fergal and Padraig put their respective heads down and set about honing their Health Informatics expertise, making an internal collective promise to invest 10,000 hours of deliberate practice. When the world changed, Tailteann promised to be ready.

...25 different software solutions in operation within the Irish Health Service, all of which significantly improve the quality, value, efficiency & capacity of each client hospital/healthcare organisation. With a culture of Kaizen at its core, the division continues to go from strength to strength, with the best still very much yet to come.
